Chemical Peel RecoveryVery Superficial Chemical PeelJust about anybody can benefit from a very superficial chemical peel, from younger patients with minimal skin imperfections to older patients who haven't exposed their skin to a lot of sun. A superficial chemical peel is very effective at removing the dead cells, giving skin that is more evenly pigmented and smoother in texture and look. As it cleanses blocked pores and helps fade dark marks, acne sufferers can also see a big improvement. There can also be removal of freckles, certain types of sun spots and fine wrinkles. It is not realistic to expect vast improvements after one chemical peel when it is this superficial. It usually takes at least four peels, about two weeks apart, before any improvemant can be seen. Recuperation None. The might be a little redness that can be covered with a touch of make-up. Frequency Initially every three to four weeks to get the desired effect and every two months after that. Superficial Chemical PeelSlightly stroger than a very superficial chemical peel it penetrates the skin more deeply and is ideal for with more sun damage and bad skin texture. Recuperation Similar to above but there can be some additional peeling and flaking that can last up to a week.Like a slight case of sunburn. Frequency Initially every ten to fourteen days andevry four weeks after that.
Medium Chemical PeelThis is ideal for someone with acne and moderate wrinkling. Deep lines will not be entirely eliminated but they will be considerably softened and all brown spots will be erased. A medium chemical peel is only appropriate for certain skin types so get advice from your doctor. Darker skin tones can benefit from a medium chemical peel but if it is not done properly there is a greater risk of hyperpigmentation (loss of pigmentation). Recuperation You will probably look pretty bad for the first ten days. Days one and two the skin will appear slightly pink. Days three and four will see a darkening of the skin. By day five the skin will begin to peel and by about ten days the peeling should be complete and back to normal. Frequency Once a year. Deep Chemical PeelThese are done using phenol, an acid that can penetrate to the deepest levels of the skin. The patient is hooked up to a cardiac monitor and sedated. There is a risk of hyperpigmentation (loss of pigmentation) which can result in the face being much lighter than the neck and body. A deep chemical peel can produce dramatic and long lasting effects and is best for patients with severe sun damage with cross hatched lines and leathery skin. Recuperation The skin is in pretty bad shape for about two weeks and can be pink for months afterwards. Frequency A deep chemical peel is only a once in a lifetime thing.
